It's A New Year!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone and happy new year to you!!!!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season.

I must say this was a very special Christmas for us.  Our youngest daughter, Kaitlyn, was proposed to on Christmas morning by her boyfriend, Robert.  I am happy to say she accepted his proposal.  She has already started the wedding planning.  While no date is set yet, she is working to ensure the details will be exactly what she wants.  I could not be more happy for her.  Robert is a wonderful young man and we are looking forward to having him as a son-in-law.

Our oldest daughter, Heather, also had wonderful news to share with us.  She has gone back to school and made a 4.0 gpa for this past semester!  She received a formal letter of congratulations from the school.  We are so proud of her achievement!!

As promised, I am going to share with you a birthday card I made for Robert's birthday.  I took lots of photos of this card and am going to share it with you for a few days in order to break down the components.  Now as I am typing this for you, I am also preparing to begin keeping my nephew once again as his mommy goes back to teaching.  I am going to try to get 2 to 3 blogs in per week so it may take a week or so to show you all the components of this card.  Let's begin, shall we.

I think last year was my year for tri-fold cards.  I made quite a few of them for my relatives.  This one has to be one of my favorites.  I love the Minions and since Robert is a fan of the Avengers, I chose to pair them together in this awesome card.  The color scheme I went with is Real Red, Night of Navy and Whisper White.  To start this card, you will need a 5 1/2" x 12" piece of red card stock.  You will need to score it from top to bottom at 2", 4", 8" and 10".  Then you will turn it lengthwise.  You will measure 1 1/2" from each side and mark it on the 2" score line and the 10" score line.  Using a ruler to help you, take your craft knife an cut from the 2" to the 10" line.  This is what creates the panels for you to fold.  The panels were made using the navy and white card stock.  I measure the panels one by one and then cut my card stock.  The panels were run through my big shot using the honeycomb textured impression folder.  Panels are attached with runner adhesive.

Here's a top view of the card.  I love how this one looks when it is open.  Whoever came up with this nifty fold is a genius!!

Here is a flat view of the card.  I forgot to take a photo of it folded up but I think that's okay.  I know I took folded ones of some of the other tri-fold cards.

In my next blog, I will share the words on the cards and one of the Minion characters with you.  I hope you will return to see them.  Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you will continue to visit with me throughout this year.   See you next time!!!!

Welcome To The Owl League

Hi everyone and happy Friday.  Well it must have just been a hiccup in the system as far as my internet goes.  It finally started working just fine yesterday and I had absolutely no difficulties with typing my blog!!!!!

As promised, I took my Superman Owl, Batman Owl, Hulk Owl, and Spiderman Owl and put them on card for you to see.  I think I will just jump right in and start.  Here we go!!!!!!

I started with a base card of Real Red cut at 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2".  For my layer I went with a 4" x 5 1/4" piece of Crumb Cake.  I ran this through my big shot using the argyle impression folder.  I attached it to the card using runner adhesive.  I punched out 4 Whisper White squares using the 1 3/8" square punch (which is retiring).  I put these through the big shot using the cloudy day impression folder.  I then attached these to the base card using runner adhesive.  I attached my super hero owl to these squares using dimensionals.

I wanted a name for my owl heroes so I opted to call them the Owl League.  Now I know very well that while Batman and Superman are part of the Justice League, Hulk and Spiderman are not.  They are from Marvel comics and run with the Avengers.  Anyway, in Owl World, all super heroes work together.  I punched a 1" circle out of Daffodil Delight and wrote the name of their group on it using black marker.  I attached it to the center of the card with runner adhesive.  Now I think next time I would either layer this onto a black circle or sponge the edges with black ink.

The final touch for my card are the words.  When I was trying to decide what to do to complete the look, I started thinking about the old Batman television show and cartoons and how they always put those silly words up when the hero fought with the villain.  I chose four words:  Wham, Biff, Zap and Pow.  I cut the letters out using the retired Billboard decorative strip to cut the letters out.  I wanted to do a shadow effect so I cut them out of Daffodil Delight and Basic Black card stock.  They are layered together using a 2 way glue pen and attached them to the card with the same pen.  All in all I think this makes a great card for a man or a boy.

Well we have once again reached the end of a week.  We have also reached the end of a month.  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and do something fun.  I plan to make a few cards so I should have one to share on Monday.  Thanks for stopping by today and I will see you next week (or should I say next month).  See you later!!!!!

Owl Punch Strikes Again!!!!!!!

Hi everyone and happy Wednesday.  I don't know about you but I sure wish the laundry would do itself sometimes.  I had put off doing ours as long as I could but finally had no choice.  There was no more room in the basket and the clothes were running low.  So I spent a majority of my day yesterday doing that.  I did still find time to craft.

I really did not know what I wanted to make to share with you today but I had an itch to work with punches.  Somehow I ended up with my favorite punch - the owl builder punch.  Now I did not know what I was going to do with this but I knew I wanted to work with it.  Well wouldn't you know I happened to look up and see my hubby's shelf with his Looney Toon superheroes on it and that was it.  I decided I would do super hero owls!!  It took me a while to make these so they are not on a card yet.  I was so excited I wanted to share these will you right away.  I will show the card once I have it.  So let's get started shall we.

Well here they are:  Spiderman Owl, Batman Owl, Hulk Owl, and Superman Owl.  Now please keep in mind that this was my first attempt to make these so I know there is probably room for improvement.   I did think about adding a Wonder Woman Owl but my silly bursitis in my right elbow flared up and I had to stop for the day.  Maybe in the future I will add her.  Let's take a closer look at each one shall we.

I used Real Red and Pacific Point card stock for Spiderman.  Of course his eyes are Basic Black and Whisper White.  I drew the spider on myself as well as the web lines on his uniform.

Batman was made using Basic Black, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, and Basic Gray card stock.  I punched the eyes using the 1/8" circle punch.  I needed to trim out the little bits from the eyes so they would be more oval.  I drew the lines on the belt and drew the bat by hand onto white.  It was then cut out to be attached.  I cut the mask down from a full owl to just the mask.

Basic Black, Whisper White, Perfect Plum, Elegant Eggplant and Gumball Green card stock for the Hulk.  His hair was cut freehand.  White gel was added to the eyes.

Finally here is Superman.  Basic Black, Whisper White, Real Red, Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point card stock for him.   His emblem was made by hand and the lines on the belt were drawn by hands.  White gel was added to his eyes too.  I made sure I gave him hair too and he had to have his cape.

For a first attempt, I am pleased with how these turned out.  I think they are rather cute.  All the pieces were adhered together using a 2 way glue pen.  I think it took more time to decided how to make certain pieces for the uniforms than to actually put them together.  My hope is to get these guys on a card for you to see tomorrow.  Maybe if inspiration strikes and my bursitis settles down, I will try a Wonder Woman.  No promises though.

I hope you enjoyed today's post.  Please come back to visit tomorrow and thanks so much for dropping by for a visit today.  Have a wonderful day!!!!
