New Big Shot Toys

Happy Tuesday everyone.  I hope you week is off to a good start.  It is one of those weeks where my hubby has to work a lot so I am missing spending time with him.  I guess I will just have to craft more to fill the void.

I ordered a new set of dies for the big shot last week from Stampin' Up!.  I had looked at these in the Spring catalog for  a couple of months and just could not decide if I wanted to order them or not.  Then I happened to come across a how to video about these dies and watched it.  It showed me how to use these as they are and how to use them for other types of projects.  I was so excited about the products, I could not wait to order them.  Today's card is a sample of using the dies as they are designed to use without really changing anything.  Ready to see  it?

Here you can see the front of the card.  I used a base card of Primrose Petals card stock cut at 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2".  Prior to folding it on the score line, I ran it through the big shot using the new Card Base Pop n' Cuts die.  This die is unique in that it has an open area where you can insert another die to create something special.  I will show that in a minute.  It also cuts the rounded design on the edge of on end and the slits on the edge of the other.  This allows you to tuck in the flaps which holds the card closed.  I added a layer to the front in Whisper White.  I cut this to be 4" x 4 1/2".  I ran it through the big shot using the Lacy Brocade impression folder and attached it with runner adhesive.  I then added a layer of Baja Breeze to this measuring 3 5/8" x 4 1/8".  This piece was put through the big shot using the Cloudy Day impression folder.  I colored in the clouds using a white colored pencil.  It was then attached to the base card with runner adhesive.

For the center piece of the front, I used a couple of stamp sets from Stampin' Up!.  The first is the Four Seasons which is a hostess set.  I stamped the large floral image onto a piece of Whisper White using So Saffron ink and punched it out using the 2 3/8" scallop circle.  I then used the set called A Fitting Occasion and stamped the circle saying in Baja Breeze.  I then stamped the scissor image from the same set in the center of the circle of words using Primrose Petal ink.  I then punched this out with the 1" circle punch.  I attached it to the center of the floral image with runner adhesive.  The finished design is attached to the card with dimensionals.

I wanted to show you a close up of the edge.  This photo allows you to see the curve in the edge that is created by the die as well as the slits that the corners slide into for closure.

My inside greeting is a simple one.  I stamped this saying from the stamp set called Perfect Punches onto Whisper White card stock using the Primrose ink and punched it out using the wide oval punch.  It is attached to the inside using runner adhesive.

Here is what makes this die so fabulous - it can be used to make a pop up card.  I took a 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece of Whisper White card stock and set it aside to run through my big shot.  I then grabbed the Pop n' Cuts die and placed the Dress Form die inside the opening.  I placed the white sheet on top and ran it through the big shot.  It cut out the pop up dress form for me to use.  I took a butterfly stamp from the Four Seasons stamp set and stamped it randomly on this piece using the Saffron, Baja and Primrose ink.  I folded the score lines to make the dress for stand up.  I took a piece of retired designer series paper and cut it at 4" x 6".  I attached this to the back of my white pop up so the color would show through the openings in the white.  It is attached using runner adhesive.  I then trimmed the top of the white piece to fit like I wanted it to fit, added the runner adhesive to the back and attached it to the base card.

The really neat thing about this set is there is a coordinating set of framelits and a stamp set to use with this.  So I took a piece of Basic Gray and using the framelits, I cut out a dress stand.  I attached it to the white piece using my 2 way glue pen.  Next I used the All Dressed Up stamp set and stamped my dress in So Saffron ink onto Whisper White.  I used the matching dress framelit and cut out the dress.  I added pearls to the buttons and a little yellow glitter to the top and belt of the dress.  It is adhered to the form with runner adhesive.  A couple of blue rhinestones added to the table finished it off.

Here is the side view of this card so you can see the pop up clearly.

Finally here is the card opened up completely.  If you have made pop up cards before, you will appreciate the slits that hold the card closed.

I do want to show you a step by step tutorial on this card.  I think it may be a lot of steps and I will probably split it into 2 days.  On day one, we will make the basic card and pop up insert.  Day 2 will focus on decorating your dress form.  I have an idea for a dress to go inside for a special occasion so maybe I will try it with you.

I am so glad you stopped by today to visit.  I hope you come back tomorrow and see me again.  I am not sure I will have the tutorial by then but we will see what happens.  Thanks for dropping in!!!

Gingerbread and All That's Holiday

Welcome to Wednesday everyone.  I am so glad you are here to see the card I have made for you today.  Today I am going to share with you another fancy fold card.  I have made one of these before but for a different holiday.  So without further ado, let's get started.

For this card, I started with a base card of Cherry Cobbler.  I love the deep red of this color.  I think it complements Christmas very well.  It is cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  The only layer on this one is a piece of designer series paper from the pack called Be of Good Cheer.  This pack is available in the Stampin' Up! catalog.  I cut this piece to be 4" x 5 1/4".  I attached a piece of 1/4" white grosgrain ribbon across the dsp about 2/3's of the way down.  I used runner adhesive to attach the ends to the back of the dsp and attached the entire piece to the card using runner adhesive.  I added small dots of Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details to the ribbon.

The cute little gingerbread men are from the stamp set called Scentsational Season.  I stamped these cut men using Soft Suede ink onto Whisper White card stock.  This stamp set is in the holiday catalog.  The wonderful thing about this set is there is a matching set of framelits called Holiday Collection.  You can actually purchase these in a bundle pack and save some money.  So once my men were stamped, I cut them out using the framelit and my big shot.  I attached the two on the sides with runner adhesive and the one in the center with a dimensional.  I then used my glitter glues and added all the decorations to them.  After all they had to look like they had been decorated.

The greeting is from the retired stamp set called Four the Holidays.  I stamped it using Cherry Cobbler ink onto Whisper White card stock and cut it out free hand.  Next I used runner adhesive and layered it onto a scrap of Cherry Cobbler card stock and again cut it out free hand.  I attached this to the card on top of the ribbon using glue dots.

Here is a photo of the inside of the card.  I chose to do a pop up stage card again.  I used the same dsp on the inside of the top and used Whisper White for the inside bottom half and the stage.  To make the pop up stage, I will once again send you to the tutorial provided by Splitcoaststamper.  Click here to go to the tutorial.

The stamps for the cocoa, tree and candy cane are from the same Scentsational Season stamp set that the gingerbread man is from.  All of these were stamped on Whisper White card stock.  I used Garden Green and Soft Suede ink for the cocoa, Garden Green and Daffodil Delight for the tree and star, and finally Cherry Cobbler for the candy cane.  All were stamped and then cut out using the matching Holiday Collection framelits.

The snowman is my own punch art creation.  I used my 3/4", 1" and 1 1/4" circle punches to make the body.  Of course I used Whisper White for this.  His nose is made with Tangerine Tango card stock and a prong from the retired small star punch.  For the eyes and buttons, I used a 1/8" circle punch and Basic Black card stock.  His arms are from the retired snowflake punch and are made using Soft Suede card stock.  All pieces of the snowman are adhered together using liquid glue.

I hope you enjoyed this little pop up card.  I did added dazzling diamond glitter to the stage area to make it shimmer like snow.  I really like making these types of cards.  Yes they take time and patience but the final result is so adorable.

Well that's it for today.  Please come by tomorrow to see what I have for you.  I look forward to your visit.  Thanks for stopping by today!!

Pop Up Fun

Happy Monday to you all!  I hope you had a wonderful weekend.  It always seems to go by so quickly.  I never seem to get everything done that I want to.  Does that ever happen to you?  If not, you are one lucky person.

Part of my weekend was spent crafting my heart away.  I decided I wanted to work with some fancy folds again since I was going to be making a bunch of Thank You cards for my husband's charity at work.  When I designed these for them, I made them to be a side step card so that it could be displayed easily by the recipient.  I enjoy working with different folds.  They always pose a challenge while I wrap my mind around exactly how to fold it but when I get it done, I am always pleased.

Today's card is a fancy fold.  It is not one I have made before and shown here on my blog so hopefully you will enjoy it.  Let me start by showing you the card front and then we will get to the special part of it.

I chose to do a Halloween theme for this one.  One of the main reasons I love making Halloween cards is the color scheme I work with.  I started this one with a base card of Gumball Green.  This really has become one of my favorite colors.  I cut it to be 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  I next cut a strip of Basic Black to measure 1 1/2" x 5 1/2".  I cut a piece of a Halloween ribbon and adhered it to the strip using a runner adhesive.  I then cut a smaller piece of the ribbon and made a small knot.  It is adhered to the other ribbon using a glue dot.  I then adhered the strip across the middle of the front of the card using runner adhesive.  To complete the background look, I added dots above and below the black strip.  I did this using VersaMark ink and the eraser end of a pencil.

I used a new stamp from the holiday catalog called Frightening Feline.  This one caught my eye the first time I went through the catalog and I knew I had to order it.  I stamped it onto a piece of Whisper White measuring 2 5/8" x 3" using Elegant Eggplant ink and sponged the edges with the ink also.  This is layered onto a 2 7/8" x 3 1/4" piece of Gumball Green.  The green is then layered on piece of Basic Black measuring 3 1/8" x 3 1/2".  Finally, the black is layered onto a piece of Elegant Eggplant card stock cut at 3 3/8" x 3 3/4".  All of these layers are adhered together using runner adhesive.  The final piece is attached to the card using glue dots.  I could have used dimensionals but decided to go with glue dots this time.  Now let's get to the exciting part.

The inside of the card is a pop up.  This is a look from the front.

Here's a look from the top down.

To begin this, I chose to use a piece of dsp that came in a paper pack I bought years ago.  I cut it as well as a piece of Basic Black to measure 4 1/8" x 5 3/8".  I lined the inside flap of the card with the bats and the lower half with the black.  Your stage will attach to this.  Now I could try to describe how to make this but instead I will send you to the Splitcoaststampers and let you read all the directions and watch a video on how to make this by Kim Score.  Click here to get all directions.

I sprayed my stage with champagne shimmer spray to add a little sparkle.  For the decorations, I wanted to keep them simple.  I started by making 2 ghosts with Whisper White and Basic Black card stock and my handy owl builder punch.  I sponged the edges of them with Basic Gray ink and added black glitter to the eyes that were attached with liquid glue.  The pumpkins were made using Pumpkin Pie card stock and the small oval punch.  You need 3 ovals for each.  The edges of these are sponged with Pumpkin Pie ink.  I added orange glitter glue to the pumpkins once they were put together using liquid glue.  I took a scrap of Soft Suede and ran it through the big shot using the Woodgrain impression folder and cut small pieces to make the stems of the pumpkins.  I then used Garden Green card stock and the bird builder punch to get the leaves for them. The stem and leaf were attached with the liquid glue also. Last is the gravestone.  It was punched using the large tag punch and Basic Gray card stock.  I sponged the edges with matching ink and wrote the RIP on with black marker.  All of these inside pieces are adhered to the pop up sticks using dimensionals.

For the greeting I decided to use a retired stamp set called Tableau of Terror.  I stamped this onto Whisper White card stock using VersaMark ink.  I then heat embossed it using black embossing powder.  I cut it out free hand which explains the funky shape.  The edges were sponged using Elegant Eggplant ink.  It was attached to the top of the stage with runner adhesive.

Well that is all for today.  I hope you week gets off to a great start.  Hop on over the Splitcoaststampers and learn how to make this one.  It is easier than you think.  I will be back tomorrow with another share.  Until then, thanks for stopping by!!

It's Cars Time

Did you see the Disney movie Cars?  It is one of my favorite ones to watch when I need a good laugh.  My husband especially loved all the references to cars in the movie like the mountains being shaped like a hood.  I learned from Ellen Kemper how to make a little car that looks a lot like Lightning McQueen for a set of birthday invitations I made.  While my card today does feature those cute Cars characters again, they are from a sticker set I found at my local craft store.  Let's just get started so you can see what makes this one special.

The neat thing about this sticker set it the characters and accessories are 3D.  I adds some dimension to the card which enhances the look.  All the stickers used came from one set.  I started with a Basic Black base card cut at 7" x 10", scored at 5".  I went with a larger card for the special feature inside.  I then added a layer of Whisper White highlighted around to edges with Tangerine Tango ink.  I then selected a few of the stickers to decorate the front with.  I carefully placed them and then added some Stickles glitter glue in dots to the top and bottom.  Now for the inside.

Ta da!!  It's a pop-up card!!  There were enough cute stickers in the pack that I could not decide which ones to use.  I finally chose to make a pop-up card so I could use them all.  You can see I put tire tack stickers on the white and chose to write my own greeting in this one.  Let me share with you a couple of photos from the sides so you get the full effect.

I got this pop-up template years ago.  I simply copy it onto Whisper White card stock by running it through my printer/copier.  I then cut along the solid lines using a cutting mat and my craft knife.  I use my scoring tool and score along the dotted lines so I know where to fold.  The hardest part is the folding of the pop-up pieces.  Once those are done, the rest is easy.  To attach my stickers, you want to make sure the only part that stick is the part attached the the pop-up.  This means you can use baby powder to brush the parts that are not attached which gets rid of the stickiness so your card will open right or do what I do.  I like to take my stickers and stick them to a piece of card stock or acetate (depends on the look I want).  These are on Whisper White card stock.  Once they are adhered, I trim them as close as I can so that the card stock does not show from the front.  I then attach them to the pop-up piece using a glue dot or sticky strip.  Either works well and holds them in place.

I do have this template.  If you are interested in it leave me a comment with your email or email me and I will send it to you.

I hope you are all looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend.  We have a very special wedding to attend on Sunday.  It should be a nice day for it and a lot of fun.  Thanks for stopping by today and I will see you Monday with the wedding card made for the special bride and groom.  See you then.
