The Owl League Strikes Again!!

It's Friday!!!!!!  For me, Friday's are also my afternoons with Jackson.  I just love spending time with him.

The card I am sharing today is one I made for my daughter's boyfriend's birthday.  I don't like to post these until after they are delivered to the person so that's why it is being posted now.  Anyway, let's get started.

I started with a base card of Read Red card stock cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored by 4 1/4".   I added a layer of Basic Black card stock to this with runner adhesive.  The  black was cut at 4 1/8" x 5 1/4".  I then added a layer of Night of Navy card stock cut at 4" x 5".  I ran this through the big shot using the star impression folder.  Once it was embossed, I attached it to the base card with runner adhesive.

The sunburst look of the background was made using a scrap piece of Sahara Sand (not visible) cut at 2 3/4" x 5".  This served as the base the sunburst would be built on top of for the card.  I took strips of Real Red and Whisper White card stock which measured 1 1/2" x 4" and embossed them using impression folders and the big shot.  The red were embossed with the houndstooth impression folder and the white were embossed with the argyle impression folder.  Once embossed, I cut each of these strips diagonally using my paper cutter.  I took the piece of Sahara Sand and marked the center of it with a pencil on each side.  I then layered the strips of embossed red and white onto this using a glue stick.  Be sure to cover your corners of the sahara and once all pieces are attached, trim off the excess that overhangs the sides.  This finished sunburst was then attached to the piece of navy on the card using runner adhesive.

The black strip that goes across the card where the sunburst and card meet is a 3/4" x 5" piece.  I attached it using runner adhesive.  The greeting is from the stamp set Teeny Tiny Wishes.  I stamped it using Night of Navy ink onto Whisper White and punched it out using the retired small oval punch.  It is layered onto a large oval punch from Real Red card stock with runner adhesive.  The finished greeting is attached to the card using dimensionals.

All the characters on here were made using the owl builder punch.  I will introduce each one and list colors used for them.  This first one is Spider Owl.  I used Real Red, Pacific Point, Whisper White and Basic Black card stock for this guy.  The spider web and spider were drawn on by hand using a fine tip black marker.

Next we have Super Owl.  I used Pacific Point, Real Red, Basic Black, Whisper White and Daffodil Delights card stock to make him.  His hair is an owl vest cut down.  The emblem on his chest was hand cut by me and the letter "s" was drawn on using a red fine tip marker.  I also added white get pen to his eyes.  The black lines on the belt were made using the fine tip black marker.

Last but not least we have Bat Owl.  To make him, I used Basic Black, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight and Basic Gray card stock.  I did use one extra punch on this one.   I used my handheld 1/8" circle puch to make the openings for the eyes in the mask.  For his emblem, I drew the bat by hand with a fine tip black marker and cut out the oval with by hand also.  I added lines to the belt with the black fine tip marker too.

All pieces of each character were adhered together using a 2 way glue pen.  Once complete, the characters were attached to the card using dimensionals.

I hope you enjoyed my card today.  I wish you all a wonderful weekend.  Stop by next week to see what I have to share with you.  Thanks for dropping by today!!

Playtime For Penguins

Welcome to Thursday everyone.  Can you believe we are only 2 weeks away from Thanksgiving?  That just seems crazy to me.  However, I am looking forward to my turkey dinner.

As you have probably already guessed, I survived my doctor appointment and the blood draw.  The tech who drew my blood was really awesome and I have no bruising!!  I am so happy.  Now I will not have to do that again for awhile.

Have you ever wondered hat penguins do for fun?  I can just see them sliding down the snowy hills into either a snow bank, the water or onto the ice.  I think it would be a blast.  With this thought in mind,  I started designing the card I am sharing with you today.  I really wanted to make the penguins slide on this one or at least look like they are sliding but it just did not happen this time.  I was short on time so I went with an easier design.  Are you ready to see it?  Let's get started.

Aren't they just so cute?  I started with a base card of Night of Navy cut at 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2".   Next I grabbed a piece of Whisper White card stock and cut it to measure 4 1/8" x 5 3/8".  I took out my wonderful pastels and chalked a light blue background for the sky.  Once it was chalked I attached it to the base card using runner adhesive.

To make the snow for the hill and ground, I took another piece of Whisper White that was 5 3/8" wide and tore strips from it.  I layered these and adhered them using a the runner adhesive.  For the ice, I used a scrap of Bashful Blue and adhered it just behind the bottom strip of white snow.  I then used some Mod Podge glue and added light blue glitter to the ice.  I then added a layer of crystal effects on top of that to make it glossy looking and to seal in the glitter.  The white glitter snowballs were added after the greeting and the penguins were added.  I used my trusty glue dots to adhere them.

My greeting comes from the retired stamp set Four the Holidays.  I stamped it directly onto the sky using Night of Navy ink.  I wanted a greeting there but did not really need it to stand out so this was the best way in my opinion to do it.

My adorable little non flying friends were all made the exact same way.  I used Basic Black, Whisper White and Tangerine Tango card stock for these guys.  I used the owl builder punch and the retired small star punch.  I punched out the beak with the star punch.  I simply punched one star and cut off 3 of the prongs, one for each penguin.  The body is the owl himself with the ears and feet trimmed off.  I punched another set of feet using the tangerine card stock.  The eyes are the medium and small circles from the owl builder punch and the vest is from it also.  All parts of the penguins are adhered together using liquid glue.

For each of my penguins I made a little hat to keep their heads warm.  I made these using 2 punches - the blossom builder and the small oval.  I used the short wide petal from the blossom punch for the hat for the top while the oval is the bottom.  For this little penguin, I used Cherry Cobbler card stock to make his.  I added some dazzling details glitter glue to match this color and then put a green pom pom ball on top.  The ball is attached with a glue dot while the hat is attached with liquid glue.

For my second penguin I chose to use Garden Green for his hat.  Again, I found a glitter glue I had that was a pretty good match to the card stock and added some details.  The pom pom ball for this one is white with gold tinsel.

The last penguins hat is made using Night of Navy card stock.  I used a blue glitter glue for the details this time.  The pom pom ball for him is red.  All of the penguins are attached to the card using dimensionals.

This was an easy card to make.   The hardest part was waiting for the crystal effects to dry.   It takes some time so I would suggest you do that part first and allow it to dry over night if possible.

Only one more day until the weekend.  I hope your week is going well.  Please come by tomorrow to see what I will make next.  Thanks for dropping by today!!

It's Easter Time!

Hey everyone.  Happy Monday.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I want to thank all of you who attended my punch class and/or crop this past Saturday.  We had a lot of fun and made some really neat things.  I taught 4 spring critters - a bunny, a duck, a dragonfly, and a butterfly.  Everyone seems to enjoy learning how to make them.  As always, my mind goes a mile a minute as I am teaching and I seem to always get inspired to make another card.  So the one I am going to share with you today is one I thought of as my students were making one of the critters.  It involved using the owl builder punch.  This card just popped into my head as I was looking at the punch.  Ready to start?

I started by using Daffodil Delight card stock to make my base card.  It is cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  I then took a piece of  Whisper White card stock and cut it to be 4" x 5 1/4".  Using my pastels (chalks) I created a sky background.  Then I grabbed a scrap piece of Wild Wasabi card stock and tore pieces off.  I attached them to the sky background using runner adhesive.  I then attached the white to the daffodil using the same adhesive.  Using a glue pen, I added glue to the edges of the "grass" and sprinkled them with Dazzling Diamond glitter.  I love the sparkle.  I turned to my handy Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set for the greeting on this one.  I stamped it using Melon Mambo ink onto white card stock and punched it out using the retired small oval punch.  I then punched a large oval out of Basic Black card stock and layered the white onto it with adhesive.  Finally, I used a scrap of Melon Mambo card stock and punched a scallop oval to make the bottom layer of the greeting.  Once it was finished, I took some pink rhinestones I had and added one to each side of the greeting.   It is attached to the card using dimensionals.  Now let's see how the animals are made.

Here is my cute little chick.  The body, eyes, and beak come from the owl builder punch.  I used Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Basic Black, and Whisper White card stock for this little guy.  To make his hair, I turned to the Boho Blossom punch and used the 6 petal flower from it.  Only 3 of the petals stick up for you to see.  For the wings, I punched a 1 3/4" scallop circle and cut it in half.  I then cut the half in half again and trimmed off the scallop piece I cut in half to do this.  Add a piece to each side and there you have him.  I added some white gel pen to highlight his various features and give him a little character.  I attached him to the card using dimensionals.

For the bunny, I used the owl builder punch once again for the body and eyes.  I then punched the nose using the circle from the itty bitty punch pack.  His ears are made using petals from the blossom petals builder punch.  I used  Basic Gray, Pink Pirouette, Basic Black, and Whisper White card stock for his color scheme.  I added white gel pen to highlight his features and drew on whiskers using a fine tip black marker.  You could also draw a mouth on this guy if you would like to.  He is also attached to the card with dimensionals.

I wanted to add an Easter Basket to this card so I decided to start by punching a white tag using the  large tag punch (it use to be called the small tag in past catalogs).  I cut the tag in half so my basket would look like a basket and ran it through the big shot using the square lattice impression folder.  I then punched a small oval using the retired small oval punch.  I took the  large oval punch and punched it around the hole of the small on creating the handle for the basket.  Now my basket would not be complete without some eggs so I had to make some.  I started with a strip of silver glimmer card stock.  I took my Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango, Marina Mist, and Wild Wasabi ink pads and using my sponges I colored the silver card stock.  Next, I turned it upside down and drew freehand my eggs (that's why they all look different).  Once drawn, I cut them apart and attached the basket and eggs to the card using a liquid glue.  I love love love the sparkle on this card.

Well, that's all I have for today.  I hope you are inspired to make a card of your own with lots of sparkle.  I will be back tomorrow with another card to share.  Until then, thanks for dropping by today!

Let's Go Green Again!

As promised I have another St. Patrick's Day card to share with you today.  I guess this holiday stands out to me because my husband's favorite color is green and both he and I are part Irish.  So I am enjoying making these little treasures.  Let's get started shall we.

Once again, I chose to use Daffodil Delight card stock as my base card.  I then took a layer of Whisper White and added some shamrocks to it.  I made them using the small heart punch and the circle punch from the itty bitty punch pack along with Garden Green card stock.  I adhered these to the white using a liquid adhesive and then ran the white through the big shot using the Houndstooth impression folder.  This embedded the shamrocks into the white making it one piece of card stock.   I used the same retired Go Green stamp as yesterday, stamped with Garden Green ink on Whisper White.  Using Garden Green card stock, I made a frame for it.  It is attached using dimensionals.  I also added a rhinestone to the center of the shamrock for added dazzle.

I used my owl builder punch to make my leprechaun owl for this one.  The colors I chose are Early Espresso, Wild Wasabi, Basic Black, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Pacific Point, and Tangerine Tango.   The hat and hat band were made using the large oval punch.  I used the wings from the bird builder punch so that he would have "arms".  Again the buckle on the hat was cut free hand.

For my pot of gold, I used Basic Black and Brushed Gold card stock.  The handle is a large oval punch punched around a retired small oval punch hole.  The pot was made using a 1 3/4" circle punch.  I placed a large oval behind the pot above the rim and then added the rim which is a word window.  My gold pieces were punched using the itty bitty punch pack circle.  You can make your pot of gold as full as you want it to be.  If there is one thing I have learned about myself it is that I really enjoy using the itty bitty punch pack circle and my owl punch.  Rarely do I created anything without them.

I hope these cards inspire you to try something new.  I would love to hear from you about your creations or even see them.  Feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about my cards or products that I use.  I do so appreciate your feedback.  Thanks for stopping by today and I will see you tomorrow.

Arrgh Maties! The Pirates Are Here!

Last we I made a couple of cute birthday cards featuring Bob and Larry from Veggie Tales.  As I was making them, I could not help but think of some of the songs they have made.  One that stood out was "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything".  My oldest is a huge pirate fan and really liked this song.  I have it set as her ringtone whenever she calls me.  So making a pirate card seemed like the natural thing to do.

While these are not vegetables, I still like them very much.  As always, let's start at the beginning.  My base card is made from Early Espresso card stock.  The layer on top is Whisper White.  I used my SU! pastels to create the background of sky, ocean, and sand.  I added some fine tip black marker birds to the sky and thin lines of glue for glitter to the ocean waves.  The glitter is dazzling diamonds.  For the sun and treasure chest, I turned to my Cricut machine and a cartridge called Life's A Beach.  The sun is made using Daffodil Delight card stock.  The face was added to the sun by the Cricut and I accentuated the features of it using a fine tip black marker.  I also added a little orange chalk to the sun just to highlight it.  For the treasure chest, I cut out 2:   one from Early Espresso and one from Brushed Gold.  I used my craft knife and cut along the lines created by the Cricut on the Brushed Gold chest.  This left me with the outline to actually layer on the Espresso.  I also made sure to add the lock.  Then I filled the chest with gems for the treasure.

I used the owl builder punch to make my pirates.  The first one got a hat as his special feature.  The card stock colors used for him are Early Espresso for the body and large eye circle, Whisper White for the medium eye circle, Basic Black for the small eye circle and the medium circle used for the eye patch and finally Tangerine Tango for the heart for the beak.  For this owl, I used a piece of retired dsp in Tempting Turquoise for his shirt.  The hat is an owl punched out in Basic Black and cut in half.  To complete the eye patch, I used a fine tip black marker to draw on the lines representing the elastic piece that goes around the head.  This picture also allows you to see the treasure chest a little closer.  I added the black dots to it for the nails.  Now on to the next pirate!

This little guy's special feature is his peg leg.  For the main part of the pirare, I used exactly the same card stock colors listed above.  One difference for this guy is his shirt is from a retired piece of dsp with Green Galore as its color.  I was sad when this one retired.  I loved Green Galore.  The  other difference is his peg leg.  To make it, I used a scrap piece of Crumb Cake and cut a thin strip off.  I then snipped off one of his feet and added the leg.

These pirates are very easy to make and can be put together quickly.  Give them a try.  I am so glad you came by today and looked at my card.  Please come back tomorrow to see what I make next.  Thanks for dropping in today.  See you tomorrow.

200 Already!!

Today marks my 200th post.  I can hardly believe it.  Perhaps what is most shocking to me is that I have had enough material to do 200 posts.  I can tell you I have truly enjoyed writing all of them and sharing my projects with you.

Today's post will be a short one.  I must admit, I have some wrapping to do while everyone is out of the house and today may be my last chance.  So I thought we would move in the direction of an upcoming holiday - Valentine's Day.  I love all the red and pink you see during February.  Hearts, flowers, and candy seem to be in abundance and it is a time to let those you love know how important they are to you.

Aren't they a cute couple?  Mr. and Mrs. Owl out on a wire.   For owls, I am sure this is a good date.  The base card for this one is a piece of Cherry Cobbler card stock.  I scored it and then place the front of the card into the impression folder called Framed Tulips.  It creates just what it say - a frame of tulips around the edges.  I then cut a piece of Basic Black to fit inside and a piece of Very Vanilla to layer on top of that.  Before attaching the vanilla piece, I grabbed a stamp set offered in last years Occasions Mini called Valentine Defined.  This set is retired but I still enjoy using it.  I stamped the wire of hearts onto the card stock using Cherry Cobbler ink.  I then adhered the vanilla to the black.  Then using the owl builder punch, I made my owls.  I wanted to jazz up their date outfits so I used the red glimmer card stock.  To differentiate between the boy and girl, I made Mr. Owl a vanilla heart boutonniere and gave Mrs. Owl a vanilla skirt.  The skirt was made by punching a large oval out of vanilla and then punching a scallop oval around the hole from the large one.  I trimmed off a piece to make the skirt fit.  Once they were made, I attached them using dimensionals.  I took the "love" stamp from the Valentine Defined stamp set and stamped it in between the owls using Cherry Cobbler ink.  Using the Heart to Heart punch, I punched several of the small hearts out of the glimmer paper and sprinkled them all over the scene.  I also made the little girl a bow by using 2 of the hearts from the owl builder punch and a 1/4" circle punch.  They are all dressed up and ready to go.

Believe it or not that's all for today.  I appreciate you dropping in to see my card.  Please come back tomorrow for another project.  See you then.

Coming Soon - New Items for Sale

I cannot tell you how excited I am about my punch class tonight.  This is the first one I have had in a long time.  I hope everyone who is coming has a wonderful time.  With that in mind, I had best get on with my post so that I can get my house clean!!

Today I thought I would share with you 3 new items that will be for sale in my store within the next couple of weeks.  Punch art is a passion of mine and while others do enjoy learning to make different punch art animals and people, they do not always have time to do it.  That is where I come in to help.  I have been taking a few orders for punch art from people who come to my crops and thought maybe the way to go would be to create sets for sale.  And that is just what I have done!

This is the Wild Animals 1 pack.  I had to show you front and back of this one because I could not fit all 4 animals on the front side.  As you can see, you get a lion, a hippo, a polar bear, and an elephant.  The elephant just would not play nice and go on the front.  He needed more room.  They are attached to a piece of card stock inside the package using repositional adhesive so that you can simply and carefully peel them off the card stock,  add your own adhesive, and apply to your card or scrapbook page.  The repositional adhesive will rub off easily with your finger or an eraser if you want to remove it completely before applying your own adhesive.  I posted a different elephant with some peanuts a few weeks ago.  He will be packaged with his peanuts and for sale also.  I just need time to get him ready.

Here are my Halloween Owls Set 1 and 2.  These are 2 separate sets and each contains 4 different creatures.  Set 1 has the witch, the black cat, a ghost and a bat.  Set 2 had Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy, and a little devil.  I love these guys.  They always make me laugh.  I will also be putting together a set of Christmas Owls soon.
These sets will be available for order from my online store or you can email me directly.  They cost $2 per set plus shipping.  Just let me know if you want any and I will get them ready for you.

Well time to clean my house.  I will be back tomorrow to show you the animals we made at the class.  Until then, have a wonderful day and thanks for stopping by.

Owl Girl

This was a nice weekend for us.  My sister and I went on Saturday and had our hair done which is always fun as the ladies who work in the salon are full of stories that make you laugh and laugh.  After, I spent a relaxing evening with my husband.  He made the most delicious bar-b-que chicken on his grill.  He smoked the legs and thighs for almost 2 hours.  It was so juicy and flavorful--yummy!  It was a real homemade meal as I made homemade potato salad and homemade cream style corn to go with it. I wish you could have been at our table.

Sunday is always a day to worship.  My husband had to work this day so I spent a good part of it with my sister crafting.  I love my craft time!!

Today's share is a card that I made a few months ago.  It sold very quickly at my April crop.  I came across a picture of it recently and wanted to share it with you.

Isn't my little owl girl just adorable?  I used the wonderful 2 step owl punch to my owl.  I put a piece of DSP into the punch to make the dress.  Now the ruffle border was not made with the owl punch.  I actually used the scallop oval punch punched around a large oval hole.  I then cut it in half and adhered it to the bottom of her dress.  Then I trimmed the sides off so that it would be the perfect fit.  As you can see, I used the little heart from the owl punch in the center of her dress and placed a bead on it.  I also used the heart from this punch to make the beak.  I punched it out of tangerine tango and adhered it to the bird right at the v-neck of the dress.  Then I placed the eyes which covers the top part of the heart leaving the "beak" revealed.  She is perched on a branch from the 2 step bird punch.   Behind that is a 2 3/8" scallop circle punch embossed using the elegant lines impression folder.  Behind that is a beautiful quilt.  I started my quilt by using a 3 3/4" x 5" piece of whisper white card stock.  I used my handy 1 1/4" square punch to punch squares of of the DSP set I used for the owl dress.  I adhered these in a random order on my whisper white piece.  Once that was complete, I ran it through the big shot using the top note die.  I added the little "x"'s with a fine tip black marker to complete the quilt look.  It is layered on a piece of Not Quite Navy which had the corners rounded using the corner rounding punch and was then run through the big shot using the Vintage wallpaper impression folder to emboss it.  It was all then assembles on a base card of Marina Mist, I think.

I love the quilt look and of course the little owl too.  I will definitely be making another one of these.  It is just too cute not to make one.

Well, I am off to work hard on many things.  I appreciate your comments and encourage you to leave more.  Be sure to visit my online store and see all the cards I offer for sale.   Of course, feel free to order as many as you like.

Thanks for dropping in today and I will see you tomorrow.

Owl Bunnies?

Okay it is official -- I love the two step owl punch!!  I just cannot stop using it.  It seems lots of demonstrators feel the same way.  The card I am sharing with you today is one I made for Easter.  I sat down to make a cute bunny to incorporate on the card and for some odd reason, I gravitated to the owl punch again.  I know I have seen several cards made using this punch.  These little owl get dressed up for all kinds of occasions.  So here are my Easter bunny owls:

Are they not the cutest things?  I believe it was Kay Sha who put owls similar to this on her blog.  I bet that is where I remembered them from.  They are easy to make and fun to look at.  I used the two step owl punch and the blossom petals punch to create the owls and their rabbit ears.  The basket is half of the small tag punch.  The handle is a large oval punch around the hole of a small oval punch.  The pattern on the basket is from an impression folder made by Cuttlebug called Argyle.  Of course another great option would be to use the Square Lattice punch from Stampin' Up!.  I have used it before to make baskets and they look beautiful.  Notice I jazzed these up with glitter.  You should know by now I always like to use glitter on cards.  The grass is from the scallop oval punch.  I punched 2 of them and cut them in half lengthwise making one side wider than the other.   They are layered on top of each other across the card .  The sky behind them was done with Stampin' Pastels.  I love using these to make sky scenes.  I made my own template for the little eggs in the basket.  Then I used designer series paper and traced the egg template and cut them out.

That's it for today.  I seem to have a cold and am going to lay down.  Thanks for stopping by.  See you tomorrow.

Anniversary Card

As I promised yesterday, I wanted to share the card I made for my husband for our anniversary:

I was inspired by a demonstrator named Kay Sha for this adorable creation.  She had these adorable owl Wizard of Oz characters for her heading on her blog page for awhile and was kind enough to share the recipe to make them.  I changed colors a little to suit myself and my husband.

Wizard of Oz is one of my all time favorite movies.  I have watched it since I was a very little girl and still look forward to it every time I pop the DVD in.  When I got married,  I was fortunate enough to marry a man who likes the movie too and his favorite character is the Scarecrow.  We started collect some items about the movie and always are looking for things that have both Dorothy and Scarecrow on them.  I placed mine on the Yellow Brick Road on my card to represent the journey we take through life in our marriage.  I think this is my favorite anniversary card as of today.  I am glad to be able to share it with you and hope you enjoy seeing it too.  Thanks for stopping by!!
