Get Well Card Revisited

I am truly losing my mind I guess.  I shared the card I am going to talk about today back in 2012 but apparently did not explain all the instructions for it.  I described the background and the base card but did not put the instructions for the punch art character on it.  Then at the beginning of July, I posted the card again to represent the illness that was running through my family.  Thanks to one of my followers, it was brought to my attention that I failed to provide instructions on how to make him.  So today, I am going to provide them.  Now I am not going to go through the base card and the background or greeting.  I am just doing the punch art instructions.  Let me show you the card first, then we will focus on the punch art.

Here is the sad little sick puppy once again.  He is resting on his bed, holding onto his tissue.  This one just tugs at my heart.  It is so sweet!!  Anyway, let's just focus on the doggy.

Here is a closer look at him.  Below you will find the instructions for him.

1 3/8" Circle for head
Wide Oval for body
3/4" Circle for the paws (trim away 1/4 of the bottom and round out edges)
Modern Label for legs and feet (cut one label in half and round one edge of each piece for the haunches, punch out 2 labels and cut 1/3 off of each label and round out edges for each foot)
small heart from the retired Heart to Heart for the pads of his feet
3/4" Circle for the tail (cut off 1/3 of the circle at a slight curve)
1" Circle for muzzle; attach this with a dimensional
1/2" Circle cut in half for the eyelids, 1 punched out of black and trimmed into an oval for the nose
Circle from the punch pack for the eyeballs, I also punched this in black for eyes, I just trimmed them down to the size and shape I wanted
Ears were made by punching half of the 3/4" circle (do this along the edge), then line up the 1" circle over the top of punched hole to create ear
Punch pack circle for the thermometer (cut a thin white strip for the rest of the thermometer)
1 1/4" square punch in white for the tissue (mist with water and crumple up)

Well there you have all the punches needed to make your own little doggy.  Most pieces were adhered together using a 2 way glue pen.  The muzzle was the only exception.  The completed dog was adhered to the card using dimensionals.  I hope this helps those of you who want to give him a try.  Thanks to Kim Score for teaching me how to make him originally.

Stop by tomorrow to see what I have for you next.  Thanks for stopping by today!!!

Look Familiar?

Does this card seem familiar to you?  I am sure if you have been following my blog for awhile you recognize this one.  It is one of the get well cards I have made and let me tell you if fits my life the past week or so.  My youngest ended up at the doctor and is being tested for strep.  We are still waiting for the test results.  Her boyfriend had an infection that caused facial swelling but he seems to be doing better now.  A good friend of ours has a daughter fighting strep throat.  She has been running fevers as high as 106 degrees!  To top it all, my hubby is have his usual sinus problems and has been in bed all weekend.

I bet it would not surprise you to know that I have not been crafting.  I am so hoping to be on the recovery side of all these illnesses this week so I can get back into my craft room.  I did want to share this one with you again since it is probably my favorite get well card I have made to date.

I hope to be back with a new share for you in the next day or so.  Until then, please stay well and thanks for stopping by to visit.  See you later.

Poor Little Penguin

Happy Monday everyone.  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  I spent part of mine working on ideas for my Christmas cards!  Yes it is once again time to plan and start working on those.  I have to admit, I have not sent many out in the last 2 years.  When my brother passed away, I kind of gave up on everything for a while.  It has taken me until this year to feel really motivated to make and celebrate anything to do with the holidays.  But before I could work on any ideas, I had to make a get well card for my husband's charity he is in charge of so I wanted to share it with you.

I started with a base card of Elegant Eggplant cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  I added a layer of Whisper White which was cut to be the length of the card and trimmed one edge with the retired eyelet border punch.  I then added a layer of a designer series paper I picked up at a craft store making it once again the length of the card and edging it with the retired eyelet border punch.  The layers were all attached to the base using a runner adhesive.

For the focal point of the card front, I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock measuring 2 1/2" x 3 3/4".  I pulled out a Stampin' Up! stamp set which is from years ago and therefore is retired to use for this one.  I do not know the name of this set as it was given to me used and the name was not on it.  I just call it my get well penguin set.  I stamped the saying using Basic Black ink onto the top part of the card stock and then stamped the penguin using StazOn ink on the bottom half.  I used the StazOn because I wanted to water color my penguin and needed an ink that dried quickly and would not smear.  I pulled out Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Elegant Eggplant, Melon Mambo and Tempting Turquoise ink pads.  Using my blender pens, I colored in the areas of the design I wanted to add a little color too.  Once this was completed and dry, I edged the white with the eggplant ink and attached it to the card using runner adhesive.

For the inside, I stuck with the same stamp set.  I started by stamping the saying in Basic Black on Whisper White card stock, cut it down to a size I liked and adhered it using runner adhesive.  Next I stamped the band-aid using the retired Creamy Caramel ink onto retired Creamy Caramel card stock.  I cut the band-aid out and used my Real Red marker to color in the heart.  You can use the Crumb Cake card stock and ink for this.  It works well too.

Well that is all for today.  I am off to ponder Christmas cards once again.  I promise to share some of my ideas with you along my journey and to keep making other cards as well.  I will be back tomorrow with another card to share.  Until then, thanks for dropping by today!!

Feeling Under the Weather?

I finally got to open my Stampin' Up! boxes and go through some of the new items coming out in the catalog.  I also got to see the new catalog!!  It is filled with really neat stuff.  My wish list will be so long!!  I love the new in-colors.  They are absolutely beautiful.

While I did get to open my boxes, I did not get to play with my stuff.  You see the charities group contacted me again in need of 2 get well cards.  Now my husband still does not have his so I hope I am not just spinning my wheels by doing these.  However, since my husband is the president of the charity and is the one requesting the cards, I am sure the recipients will receive them.  So I realized I had not designed one for them and could not decide what I wanted to do.  Well my husband remembered the card I made with the sick dog on the front and thought it would work for them.  That is what I did today - made sick dogs.  Let me show you.

This little guy may look familiar.  I have shared a card with him on it before.  You can search through the get well cards to find him and get the instructions on how to make him.  I believe I learned to make him from Ellen Kemper.  The main difference between these cards and the original is the designer paper used for the bed and pillow.  They all came from the same designer series paper pack from Stampin' Up!.  It is a retired dsp and I do not recall the name, but it is perfect for men.  I hope to see another pack that is man oriented to have variety to use.

Here is the first little guy up close.  I just want to hug him to make him feel better.

Here is the second puppy.  Again, I know a hug would help him too.

I know this is probably not what you thought I would do for today but when the charity calls, I answer.  Anyway, I really hope to play with some of the new products for tomorrow.  I will share whatever I do with you.  So please, please, please come back and see me.  Thanks for stopping by today!  Happy crafting!

Watch Out For That First Step

Just over a month ago, my dear husband was injured at work while fighting a house fire.  He hurt his right ankle pretty badly and was off work for a month.  If you know my husband, then you know that was pure torture for him.  Although he enjoyed getting to sleep in a little and play video games as he was icing his ankle, he really missed his crew and doing the job he loves.  So when he was released back to work on the 25th, he was so excited.

I make all the thank you and sympathy cards for the charity run be the fire department.  Recently, my husband was elected president of the charity committee.  So when he was hurt, I received a phone call asking me to make a get well card for my husband.  This was to be kept a secret from him.  I mailed the finished card to one of the other fire fighter wives and it was suppose to get to a charities member and then to my husband.  Well I finished the card, mailed it off and never heard of it again.  I don't know where it is or what happened to it but I am so sad that my hubby never got it.  Well I did not want to post it on my blog just in case he saw it but I am really tired of waiting for it to show up.  After all he has been back to work for a week or two now.  So I decided to show it to you today.  I am really proud of this one.  I customized it especially for him.  I do hope you like it.  Here we go:

Isn't he cute?  If you can't tell, he is falling off the ladder.  I will as always start from the beginning of this one.  Although you cannot see it, the base card is Garden Green, measuring 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".   I took a piece of Basic Black card stock cut at 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" and layered it on top using runner adhesive.   Next I took a piece of Cherry Cobbler and cut it at 3 1/2" x 5 1/2".  Using my scoring tool, I scored lines on it to make it look like bricks.  I used Early Espresso ink and a sponge to add the dark smudges to the bricks.  I grabbed a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock and using my blossom petals builder punch I punched out petals to use for the flames.  I took my sponge and my Tangerine Tango ink and sponged a little on each flame.  I arranged the flames across the top of the card and adhered them down using liquid glue.  I trimmed off any part of the flames that hung over the edge of the card.  I then attached the brick wall using runner adhesive.

For the ladder, I used Brushed Silver card stock.  I cut 2 strips 1/4" thick each.  I angled the tops to give it a ladder look.  Next, I punched out several word windows from the silver.  These became the rungs of the ladder.  I glued the rungs to the side pieces using liquid glue and glued the entire ladder to the card with the same glue.  Don't worry if the ladder is a little long.  Just trim it down.

The little fireman himself is made using the owl punch.  I posted another fireman on April 11, 2012.  You can visit that post to learn more about how to make him.  I customized this guy to be like my husband.  He has red hair and a red mustache as well as blue eyes.  Since my hubby is a captain, he had to have the red helmet.  On the shield, you can see the L142.  That stands for ladder #142 which is my husbands company.  Gosh I really hope they get this card to him soon.  I want to see what he thinks about it!!

For the greeting, I used my Stampin' Up! catalog for inspiration.  There is a stamp set called Smarty Pants (it is retiring) and this quote by Ward Cleaver, you know Beaver's dad,  is in the set.  Now I wanted a specific color and design to the lettering, so I did not want to use an actual stamp.   So I typed this on my computer and added the effect to it that I wanted.  I printed it out on Whisper White card stock and cut the words apart.  I layered these on black strips cut slightly larger using runner adhesive and attached to words to the card front using the same runner adhesive.  I just thought this greeting was perfect for the card.

So what do you think?  I hope you like it.  It is one of my favorite cards I have ever made.  I am so glad I got to share it with you.  Now if it would just make its way to my hubby, I would be happy.

Thanks for stopping by today to take a look.  I will be back tomorrow and hope you will too.  I will see you all then!!

In Need of a Get Well Card?

There are several types of cards that I like to keep on hand.  One of them is get well cards.  Don't worry, no one is ill right now but for some reason when someone gets ill it is always a surprise.  So today I wanted to share with you a card I made just for this type of situations.  This particular card was inspired by 2 people:  the first is a fellow demonstrator named Kim Score and the second is my little dog Sadie.  I know that sounds weird but this card was made the same day I took her to the vet to get her yearly shots.  I am sure this card shows her feelings for this particular day.  So let's get started.

This little guy makes me want to hug him.  I started with a base card cut at 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2" out of Garden Green card stock.  My first layer on this is a piece of Night of Navy measuring 4" x 5 1/4".  I ran it through my big shot using my stripes impression folder.  It just seemed like a good texture for the "wall".  I turned to my box of dsp that is retired and found this neat plaid piece.  I love the colors of this.  I wish I could remember the name but it us just gone.  I cut a piece to be 2" x 5 1/4" and rounded the top 2 corner.  This would serve as the dog's bed.  All of these pieces were adhered together using runner adhesive.

For the greeting, I used a stamp set that did originally come from Stampin' Up!.  It is a retired one.  However, I did not purchase it new.  I got it from a fellow stamper who was getting rid of some of her old sets.  She did not have the name of the set on the box and could not remember it either.  So I just refer to is as the "get well" set.  I stamped it using Garden Green ink onto Whisper White card stock.  I used my paper trimmer and trimmed the piece down.  Then using my corner rounder punch, I rounded all the corners.  It is finished off by adding some Garden Green ink to the edge of the card stock using a sponge.  I adhered it to the card using runner adhesive.

I fell head over heels for this little dog.  I really think he represents how everyone feels when they get sick.  I learned how to make this little guy including the thermometer and tissue as well as his pillow from Kim Score.  I am not going to list the punches used since this is her design.  Instead, I would suggest you visit her blog which is called Paper Punch Addiction.  Once you get there scroll down and look for the free tutorials on the left hand side.  This one is called Sick as a Dog.  I have found wonderful tutorials on her site and tweek them as my own.  For this card, the colors scheme was all my own as was the background embossing and the "bed".  The greeting is also different from hers.  I used Soft Suede and Early Espresso for my doggy colors.  The pillow was adhered using runner adhesive as was the dog's head, body, and ears.  For the muzzle and the 4 paws, I attached them using dimensionals.  This was Kim's suggestion and I like the look of it on the card.  White gel pen and a fine tip black marker finish off the dog.  Anyway, if you have questions about how to do some part of him, I would be happy to help.  Now let's move to the inside.

This saying is from the same stamp set as the greeting on the front.  I stamped this one is Night of Navy onto Whisper White card stock.  I trimmed it down and rounded the corners.  Night of Navy ink was sponged onto the edges.  It is attached to the card using a runner adhesive.

I do hope you enjoyed this one.  For a get well card, it will hopefully bring a smile to someones face.  I appreciate you taking a few minutes out of your day to stop by and see what I made.  I sure hope you come back tomorrow.  I will see you all then!

The Mod Girl Gets A Job

Okay.  I am officially addicted to my owl punch this week.  I have had so much fun making all the little people with it.  I have been blessed with lots of ideas and just want to share them with you.  So of course, as I was laying in bed this morning I thought about the mod girls I made and shared last week.  I still think they look like go go dancers.  I just need to give them boots.  Well the thought occurred to me that these girls could be made into other professions.  I mean if a chef can become a fireman, why can't a mod girl become something else too.  So I set off to my craft room to make the magic happen.

As I was pondering what job I wanted her to have, I was also baking a dessert to take to our friends house for dinner.  They were so nice to ask us over so I wanted to bring something along to eat too.  Well all of a sudden, I knew what job I would do.  It is in honor of my friend Valerie.  She has been in this profession for a while and deserves to be honored.  I hope she likes this.

Now Valerie if you are looking at this little girl I did not make her to look just like you, but she is in honor of you.  I do not know how but somehow I managed to cut off one side of the edge of the card.  I guess my hand moved when I snapped the photo.  Oh well.  I think you can see the card pretty well.  So let's get started.

My base card for this on is done with Real Red card stock.  It is cut at 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4".  I added a layer of Basic Black measuring 4" x 5 1/4" using runner adhesive.  For the top layer, I went with Crumb Cake card stock.  I wanted to be sure the nurse would stand out and this color lent itself to that.  It is cut to be 3 3/4" x 5".  Before adding it to the card, I ran it through the big shot using the Stripes impression folder.  It is adhered to the card using runner adhesive.  Once the base card was assembled, I was ready to begin the pieces.

First up was the greeting.  Now since I knew I was making a nurse, decided to make this a get well card.  The saying is stamped using StazOn ink.  Now this saying does come from a retired Stampin' Up! set but I do not know the name of it.  I received this one as a gift from a friend and the name label was not on it.  Once it was stamped on Whisper White card stock, I punched it out using the decorative label punch.  I then edged it with Real Red ink.  I took a scrap of Real Red and punched out 2 more decorative labels and ran them both through the big shot using the Perfect Polka Dots impression folder.  I then made the frame for the greeting.  It is adhered together with runner adhesive and attached to the card using dimensionals.

Since I have made these little mod girls before, I knew what the completed size would be.  I also knew I would need something else to go on the front of the card.  So I pulled another stamp out of the retired stamp set the greeting came from and stamped it using StazOn ink onto Whisper White.  I used my Stampin' Up! markers to color in the bottle and bouquet.  I added dazzling diamond glitter to the edge of the bottle cap and then attached it to the card using dimensionsals.

Finally, we come to the star of the card - our nurse.  If you remember, you only need three punches to make her:  the owl builder, the 1" circle and the 3/4" circle.  Once difference on this girl is instead of drawing her eyes and nose onto her face, I used the tiniest circle from the owl punch to make these.  The face, neck, nose, arms and legs are out of Blushing Bride card stock.  I used Wild Wasabi for her green eyes and added a small white gel pen dot.  Her mouth is drawn on using a fine tip red marker.  The back of her hair is the owl himself with feet cut off, turned upside down.  This is out of Soft Suede card stock.  Her bangs are 1/2 of a 1" circle with snips taken out of them.  Her face is a 3/4" circle.  Once it was punched, I punched a 1" circle around the hold left and cut it into 5 pieces: 1 for the neck, 2 for the arms and 2 for the legs.  Her hands are the feet off of a Blushing Bride owl.  For her hat, I punched a 1" circle around a 3/4" circle hole in Whisper White card stock.  I trimmed it to sit behind her bangs.  The top part is the owl vest cut in half.  Take the side with the "v" in it and attach it to the band with liquid glue.  I drew free hand the "+" using a red marker.  You will want to place this hat behind the bangs before attaching them to the girl.  The dress is a full owl vest and the shoes are the small heart from the owl punch cut in half.  All piece are attached together using a liquid glue.  I added dazzling diamond glitter to the entire nurse outfit (I did not cover the "+").

For the inside greeting, I used a stamp I found on clearance at a local craft store years ago.  It is stamped on Whisper White using StazOn ink.  I colored it using my SU! markers.  I then cut it out using my big shot and the Labels Collection framelits.  It is edges with Crumb Cake ink.  I then cut our the next size up of the framelits using Crumb Cake and ran it through the big shot using the perfect polka dots impression folder.  I layered these together using runner adhesive and attached it to the card using runner adhesive.

I will admit, I am already trying to come up with another card using the owl punch for tomorrow.  It seems only fitting since all the other days are filled with owl punch creations.  So please come back and see if I succeed with an idea to use it once more.  If you have any questions regarding this card or anything else drop me a line and I will be happy to help.  Thanks for dropping by today and I will see you tomorrow!!

Get Well Wishes

Nothing is worse that when you are ill, especially when that illness takes you into the hospital even for a short stay.  Well, when my aunt developed a blood infection, that is where she ended up.  It was very important to me to be sure to be there for her and her husband as much as possible.  They are the sweetest people and I love them dearly.

Needless to say, I had a pretty busy weekend.  I ran errands for my family as well as for my aunt and uncle and made sure to go to the hospital to spend time with her too.  Now being a card maker, it would not seem right to go without a card for her.  So I made one for her with one of her favorite animals on the front.  I think I learned to make this little guy based on a design by Ellen Kemper, yes the punch queen herself.

He is such a sweet little elephant.  My aunt loves elephants so it just seemed to be the perfect card to make for her.  He is made using the 2 1/2" circle, 1 3/4" circle, Heart to Heart, Butterfly, Word Window, and Modern Label punches.  Now I did use the retired slot punch for his eyebrows but you could just use a scrap.  I trimmed a thin piece of basic black off for the tail and cut the end into small strips.  The DSP I used in the background is a retired paper but trust me there are lots of great papers available in the new catalog that would be just as cute.

Here he is close up.  I did sponge the edges of all the gray pieces with gray ink just to accentuate them.  His ears are made from the butterfly punch.  I did punch 2 whole butterflies and attached them be adhering 1/2 of each to the back of the head.  The trunk is the word window, sponged on the edges and "wrinkles" were added with a fine tip black pen.  Only one modern label is needed for his feet.  Simply cut it in half and attach.

Here is the inside of the card.  The saying on the front and the stamp used inside are from a retired Stampin' Up! set.  However, I do not know the name of the set.  It was given to me by a friend already put together and the label with the name was not on the container.  Again, I am sure the new catalog has some cute set that would work well too.

I think my aunt really loved her card.  She thought to elephant was so cute and his expression was just right.  I am glad it brought a little ray of sunshine to her day.

Well, I am off and running again.  Thanks for stopping by today.  See you tomorrow!

Does Anyone Have A Tissue?

No one likes to be sick.  But one thing that really helps is receiving a card from a friend with a simple get well message.  It lets you know someone cares and wants you to feel better.

I always like to make "cute" cards.  I know it seems silly, but I like cards that send a message to someone and hopefully put a smile on their face.  Get well cards can be a challenge.  You have to know who you are giving it to, what their illness is, and though it is sad to say, is it an illness they will get better from or not.  It all makes a difference in what you say.

One of my favorite cards to make is one I would give to a friend with a cold or the flu or a sinus infection.  Now if you have ever suffered from any of these, you know one thing you constantly seem to do is grab for a tissue.  So why not make a cute card with that theme?  So here is the one I made:

Now I added a lot of sparkle to this one because I had a girl in mind to send it to.  The adhesive I used to put the glue on is sticky strip tape.  It is all uniform all the way around and the glitter really sticks to it.  You could also adhere micro beads to this.  Now let's look a little closer.

I have seen other designs that actually have a little box raised off the card.  I have found this one I made is a lot easier to mail since it is flat.  Really it is your preference as to what you like to make.  I think this is cute.  I know the few people I have given one to have really appreciated the thought and loved the creativeness of it.  What do you think of it?  Leave me a comment to let me know.
I hope all of you readers out there are well.  I truly appreciate your reading my blog and leaving comments.  Keep it up!!  Thanks for stopping by and I will see you tomorrow.
